number 15 -SLATTERYS!!!

I'm a great fan of spontaneity so you can imagine my surprise and delight when I was woken up this morning to be told that I was going on a half  day chocolate course at no other than the home of yummyness = Slattery.

Slattery's is a family run business  and I've been to the restaurant there so many times before that I'm friends with the guy at reception. As per I was the first to arrive in that hallowed hall, with all the tempering machines it was enough to make my mouth water and i felt rather inclined to stick my head under the flow of chocolate...

They started the afternoon with a talk about where the lovely brown gooey stuff comes from and its journey from a bean into my tummy. We then proceeded to play with the stuff and made a teddy bear and chocolate cups using moulds, lollipops and truffles.Of course to help minimise the clearing up I went round hoovering up the left over chocolate.

For the moulds, we filled them with chocolate from the tempering machines then held the mould over a vibrating tray to get rid of the air bubbles,we then scraped off the excess chocolates and left the chocolate to set before putting on a second layer. Unfortunatley one of my chocolate cups was coated too thinly and it shattered. leading to a trip to the chocolate hospital where vast amounts of chocolate glue had to be applied.

me and my delightful hair net and the doggy doodoo truffles

The ganache was made by mixing together chocolate and cream, we then piped the ganache into truffle shapes, the required shape was balls, mine looked more like what comes out of the rear end of a dog.

Wearing a white apron was definatley a mistake as by the end of the season it was a lovely shade of brown as was the rest of me lol.
I made enough chocolate to feed a small army woop woop!!

all packaged up and ready to go
